Ketchum's Global Research & Analytics (KGRA) team is looking for a Research Associate to work out of our New York office. This role will work closely with research specialists based around the globe. This role will be responsible for primary, secondary and social media research and measurement projects in order to provide consumer and business insights to account and new business teams.

About the Job

Understand client objectives and distill findings that are insightful and actionable.

  • Synthesize data and research trends both primary and secondary, from a variety of sources to develop strategic insights that will become the foundation for communications program development for existing clients and for new business pitches
  • Develop concise, well-thought out reports and presentations that tell a story and serve to inform account teams and clients who may be less-versed with data from research and/or measurement platforms

Conduct secondary research projects under guidance from senior staff. Analyze findings for strategic planning in marketing and public relations. This person is a supplier of consumer and business insights – not “data dumps” – to account teams and new business teams, to include:

  • Response to information requests from Strategic & Creative Planners and account staff
  • Proactive outreach to key account teams during planning season
  • Interpretation of GfK MRI, Roper, Iconoculture, Factiva, comScore  and/or other types of secondary data
  • Development of target audience profiles, secondary research summaries, and trends reports

Conduct primary research projects (quantitative and qualitative) under guidance from senior staff.  Analyze findings for consumer and business insights, to include:

  • Development of publicity survey questionnaires and focus group recruitment screeners
  • Analysis and reporting of research findings
  • Serve as a departmental liaison to primary research vendors

Conduct Social Media Research and Measurement:

  • Learn the newest social listening tools (e.g. Radian 6, Sysomos) to understand what consumers are saying about our clients’ business

Measure success of communication programs:

  • Evaluate media coverage for public relations programs and campaigns
  • Conduct media audits and media coverage analyses
  • Drive business for the KGRA team by having a visible role within the New York office and educating account teams on research and measurement offerings
  • Foster and build professional relationships between KGRA and the broader Ketchum network
  • Ability to work efficiently through multiple platforms (email, IM, in-person) and with colleagues in various time zones across the West Coast, Midwest, East Coast and London
  • Familiarity with social media and online communities in relation to broader media mix

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, market research, public relations, history, English or related field
  • 1-2 years research experience preferable
  • Aptitude to translate trends, technologies and metrics into conversational English
  • Strong writing skills
  • Interest in social media platform and how companies are using the tools to drive brand awareness, engagement, and traffic to a website/social media pages
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to create partnerships and build connections that will drive business for the Ketchum Global Research Network team
  • Outstanding time management skills and ability to work independently while keeping manager informed of projects, workload and business opportunities
  • Ability to analyze research and data to determine actionable project outcomes and strategic insights
  • Experience with social media tools Radian6 and Sysomos, media research tool Factiva, Google Analytics and media monitoring service Cision
