Ketchum seeks a VP, Content Strategist with marketing communications experience to guide strategy and content for one of the agency’s top 25 clients in the professional services industry.

The VP, Content Strategist is responsible for strategy, content development and output and oversight of the writing team. This person is an experienced, proficient business writer and relationship manager who, in partnership with the Client Director, will serve as a strategic liaison among Deloitte clients, the account team and the creative team.

Candidates for the position should have a facility for clear, fast, powerful writing in a variety of formats, and a vision and understanding for applying writing across a multitude of platforms for maximum impact.

    About the Job

    • You are a trusted and respected leader for a team of experienced professional business writers and a partner to the Client Director.
    • In addition to writing, you have a point –of-view and vision for how to connect key business themes across multiple marketing materials.
    • You think past just the content and focus on the best channel for dissemination, whether it’s video, digital or traditional printed marketing materials.
    • You are a quick study in absorbing the particulars of our clients’ businesses. You may be handling multiple sector and themes daily.
    • You must be an English-to-English translator who can process corporate-speak into normal language – striping away jargon without “dumbing down” or obscuring nuance. You should have a journalist’s ear and a marketer’s flair for finding the provocative or memorable element in an otherwise ordinary message.
    • You do not need graphic, coding, or animation skills. But you should be able to think visually and be able to collaborate effectively with people who do, so you can turn out work that reflects everyone’s talent. You will be closely working with the creative lead and design and/or video team members on all projects.
    • You will be called upon routinely to lead multi-party telephone interviews. You will be called upon occasionally to facilitate in-person message strategy sessions, sometimes involving travel.
    • Whatever organizational skills you have developed that will help you keep multiple, simultaneous projects on track, you will need them here. A typical workload involves a mix of long-term projects and quick-turn client needs. While you will work with professional project managers, the person in this role is a partner in managing projects – not a functionary who receives “assignments.”

    Leadership competencies and skills:

    • Shape a culture of respect and integrity, influence others to do their best work, and ensure compliance with agency policies.
    • Partner with the Client Director to lead strategic change initiatives.
    • Collaborate with others in the network and encourage borderless partnership and collaboration.
    • Communicate clear, progressive direction.
    • Lead and develop engaged and dynamic teams.
    • Foster respect and collaboration within the team and/or agency partners.
    • Identify issues within the team and assist in resolution.
    • Develop and retain talent through timely, effective, and consistent use of performance management, succession planning, coaching, and other talent management tools. Identify and encourage participation in training, development, and career growth opportunities for team.
    • Attract and recruit top talent to the agency and effectively manage their introduction to the agency culture and practices.
    • Work with human resources director in appropriate handling of personnel matters, management of issues, and organizational development.

    • 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field preferred.
    • Outstanding content strategy, strategic writing and editing experience.
    • Understanding of marketing communications best practices for professional services organizations.
    • Proven track record of building new business.
    • Direct experience in building and managing teams.
    • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
