    Ketchum looking for a Research Director to work out of our New York office!

    About the Job

    The Research Director will be the primary point of contact for most New York account teams and be responsible for integrating research and measurement into all client engagements.


    The overall purpose of this position is to serve as a research lead for Ketchum servicing internal and external clients. The Research Director will be responsible for leading, mentoring and growing a team of junior and mid-level staff, raising the awareness of our Research & Analytics group among account teams, providing outstanding service and strategic counsel to clients inside and outside the Agency, and raising the overall caliber of research, insights and analytics at Ketchum.


    • Developing and overseeing client programs and preparing research proposals, both to Ketchum Agency clients and to other outside companies who need research, measurement and analytics services.
    • Management of the budgets and teams on sizable accounts with responsibility for profitability, incremental growth, quality of account service and employee development.
    • Designing and coordinating primary research projects, both qualitative and quantitative, to include:
      • Questionnaire design, banner/tabulation design, data analysis, production of research reports, discussion guide creation, and focus group moderation.
    • Designing and coordinating secondary research projects, for example:
      • Developing target audience profiles, secondary research summaries, and trends reports.
    • Management of media measurement projects including traditional, social and digital media for example:
      • Standard media audits and those using proprietary techniques. This includes both manual and web-based methodologies.
      • Conversation analyses of social media
      • Web analytics
    • Driving business for the agency to include:
      • Driving and leading new business pitches and delivering new and incremental business wins.
      • Being a supplier of consumer and business insights to account teams and new business teams.
    • Holding a visible role within the office and hosting training sessions that educate account teams on research, measurement and analytics offerings.
    • Growing and mentoring junior staff, and managing staff on all projects to achieve individual financial goals.
    • Providing advice and counsel to the senior leadership team on management, research issues, and new business opportunities in the office or region.
    • Contributing to the development of a suite of measurement projects to support agency and other departmental offerings.
    • Contributing to the growth of the PR measurement profession by being active in relevant organizations in the local/PR research community.




    • Strong client service and management skills
    • Teamwork and the ability to work with staff across a variety of offices and time zones is important
    • Experienced manager of staff at various levels
    • The ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance.
    • The ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
    • 8+ years of research experience; advanced degree in a relevant field desired but not necessary.
    • Strong statistical, writing, and public speaking/presentation skills.
    • Primary and secondary research experience and sample design knowledge.
    • Strong project management skills (budget management, timing etc.)
    • Knowledge of social media measurement and social media monitoring tools, such as Radian6, Sprinklr, Brandwatch.
    • Knowledge of/Expertise in any of the following desirable:
      • Secondary databases, such as YouGov Profiles, Comscore, eMarketer
      • SPSS or similar statistical package capabilities.
    • Global research experience and/or language skills desirable
