  • Overview


    We are seeking a dynamic communications counselor to serve as an account manager while maintaining a supportive work culture for the talented Public Affairs team. The position requires someone who can think and implement creatively in a fast paced environment.  Must have strong understanding of the current media environment as well as the intersection of government and business.

    About the Job

    • Serve as client contact, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of clients’ business; develop strategy for implementing successful client programs, in industries such as health, tech, food and ag, and corporate
    • Provide strategic guidance to clients on an ongoing basis; anticipate and address client needs
    • Provide key insights in how clients can better position their organizations and their policy goals with policymakers and thought leaders in Washington, DC and state capitols across the country
    • Bring experience and expertise in media relations to bear on behalf of client needs including, creating newsworthy moments, media pitching and placements, relationship building, media training and editorial development
    • Troubleshoot clients’ problems as they arise; seek senior management input whenever appropriate
    • Help account team(s) work effectively and in the best interests of client(s); maximize agency’s network of resources to enhance client services
    • Demonstrate proficiency in writing and editing materials including client media materials, byline articles, client correspondence and reports
    • Exhibit strong communication and presentation skills to effectively articulate ideas to clients, colleagues and others
    • Take a leadership role in new business proposal development and presentations; work with account teams to build incremental business
    • Manage account financials including budget allocation and control, time sheets, client billing, supplier invoicing and purchase orders; ensure team billability and account profitability




    Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance would qualify. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field
    • Four to five years of communications experience related to public policy and/or public affairs, including project management
    • Recent government/political experience (e.g., Capitol Hill, Cabinet-level agency,  trade association)
    • Broad-based exposure to all skill areas, including media relations, writing and presentations, and consultative selling
    • Direct experience in building and managing teams and budgets
